Systems Project Manager

Organizational Relationship

The Systems Project Manager reports directly to the Project Director.

Job Definition

The Systems Project Manager has access to a variety of documentation for specific technical aspects of the work of the Project including but not limited to technical and administrative areas. This position, must deal with situations and problems where formal resources are not available or directly applicable. The position requires use of a body of knowledge about information technology combined with standard departmental administration. This position applies knowledge of system capacity to determine feasibility of projects. Maintains current knowledge of new hardware and software and recommends upgrading to maintain efficient operation including management of web-based systems. Assist Project staff in performing analysis of project production and evaluation. Coordinates with other professional development and technical assistance staff members.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited, to the following:


§         Assist in the identifying technical assistance needs of school-age programs and methods to meet those needs.

§         Provide information to Project staff regarding the use of database systems

§         Collaborate with internal staff, clients and IT management to ensure that the current systems are operational

§         Evaluate and make recommendations for effective use of databases

§         Ensure programs are meeting the needs of clients and technical support staff.

§         Ensure the availability of administrative tools for managing connections

§         Ensure that design documents are drafted for all new software applications and oversee documentation of code consistently throughout the development process.

§         Work with the IT Manager to develop applications which link information from databases to web-based user display.

§          Ensure prompt and professional responses to reports.

§         Oversee the administration and maintenance of database

§         Provide on-site technical assistance tailored to specific school-age program and staff needs.

§         Work with other Project staff members to identify and implement common processes; maintain Project timelines and scheduling.

Other

§         Work with other Project staff members and consultants to identify and implement common processes; maintain timelines and scheduling. Promote the services available through the Project.

§         Maintain and increase professional competency and the Project’s ability to serve its constituencies through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development and/or courses required by the Project and sharing information gained from those professional activities with colleagues.

§         May be assigned small, sub-projects, and may perform other duties assigned by the Project Director.

§         Meet regularly with Residential Computing staff to share ideas, experiences and resources.

§         Consult with the Manager of Administrative Computing regarding supervisory and management skill development.

§         Keep abreast of computing technology.


QUALIFICATIONS


Qualifications

§         More than five years of previous system administration experience.

§         An AA, preferably a BA degree in computer science or a related field.

§         Publications within the field of system administration.

§         Extensive programming background in any applicable language.

§         Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

§         Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency, database experience.

§         Exceptional written and verbal (both telephone and interpersonal) communication skills.

§         Ability to work with and interact effectively with diverse groups of people.

§         Creative thinker and self-starter with ability to be flexible and proactive.

§         Ability to work well within a team, as well as independently .
